THERE is a big stir in the Houses of Parliament about an MP who once guarded the beaches of Bude. Charlotte Leslie, 35, the Conservative MP for Bristol North West, can be seen frequently sitting near David Cameron in Parliament — and she used to be a member of Bude Surf Life Saving Club (Bude SLSC). A picture from her days as a beach lifeguard was leaked to the national press and featured in a number of publications and blogs. The MP is a great supporter of Bude SLSC and was trained through the first surf life saving club ever established in the UK. The club is 61-years-old, two years older than the National Governing Body Surf Life Saving Great Britain, which celebrates 60 years of volunteering to keep safe beaches next year.
