LAWRENCE House Museum in Launceston re-opened for the 2019 season recently.
Among the new exhibits in the inner hall display case is a facsimile copy of a Book of Hours, a religious service book once used at Launceston Priory, which is now in the care of Birmingham University.
The original book dates from the 14th century but the university has allowed the museum copies of the original pages and the right to show them. Although not illustrated as one might expect, the scribe has allowed himself the odd flight of fancy on some pages.
They have been bound in leather by local bookbinder, Felicity Hutton. It is a beauty to behold.
So why not come and visit the museum soon and bring some visitors?
The museum will be open until Friday, November 1, from 10.30am until 4.30pm — last entry 4pm Monday to Friday including all bank holidays.
Entry to the museum is still free so visitors can come as often as they like. For further information, contact the museum by telephone on 01566 773277 and by email [email protected]. Check out their website at www.lawrencehousemuseum.org
