A STUDENT from Launceston has won the ‘Young Student of the Year’ in the Motor Industry Awards.
The ‘best of the best’ apprentices in the motor retail sector gathered on October 20, at the headquarters for the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) for the Outstanding Achievers Awards 2016.
Saskia Charnock, from Launceston, beat stiff competition to be awarded Young Student of the Year in the 14 to 16-year-old category.
The winners and finalists, including Saskia, were selected from more than 100,000 learners within the IMI network of more than 660 centres.
The award’s aim is to recognise those apprentices that have excelled in their courses. The event was attended by learners as young as 15, parents and guardians, tutors and IMI patron His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent.
Steve Nash, CEO of the IMI, said: “The individuals recognised today, including Andrew Gault, work in a dynamic and exciting sector, where advancing technologies put skills in high demand and where high customer expectations mean that having the best personnel is vital to the success of a business.”
“Each finalist forms a vital part of the future of an industry which is a critical part of the UK economy. It was hugely encouraging to present these awards to a room of such inspirational individuals who all share the same passion and enthusiasm for an industry that is fast becoming the most exciting and innovative sector in which to work.
“And, importantly, the dedication shown by each of the trainers is also truly outstanding. Without their continuous support and their passion, it wouldn’t be possible for the UK to lead the way in automotive training and skills.”
