AT the recent Launceston Carnival AGM, the 2017 carnival committee was chosen, which resulted in no changes taking place.

The 2017 committee members are: chairman — Dave Gordon; vice chairman — Peter Cooper; secretary — Jackie Parsons; treasurer — Donna Ronan; royalty secretary — Lisa Gordon; general committee members — Peter Sandercock, Steve and Ali Philips.

Chairman, Dave Gordon, told the Post: “It is great to report that Launceston Carnival is in a good position both financially and structurally, and this is a direct result of the support we get from the town council, local businesses, and the people of the town and surrounding area each year.

“Last year we were generously sponsored by Charlie Bears and it is wonderful news that we can officially announce so early in the year that Charlie Bears will be the main sponsor again in 2017. Carnival day this year will be on Saturday, October 14.

“We are already in contact with various bands regarding availability and we are hopeful that these will be confirmed over the next few weeks”.

Following the AGM the committee held the first meeting of the year, where they discussed some new ideas for 2017, which will hopefully result in more pre parade activities and entertainment in the town centre.

Dave continued: “Last year we had a couple of events in the town centre (Bournemouth Carnival Band and Popchoir) who proved very popular, and it is hoped that we can build on that success and have more entertainment throughout the afternoon of carnival day this year. Of course this all requires extra staffing and earlier road closures, but we are hopeful this can be achieved."

Anyone who is interested in supporting carnival on carnival day in any way, can speak to Dave via the contact page on the carnival website.

All the carnival up to date news of forthcoming fundraising events like car boot sale dates, royalty choosing, plus an evening with Kernow King in the Town Hall on Friday, August 18 will be also found on the website soon.
