Recycling centre reopens in Launceston following fire earlier this week.

Suez recycling centre on the Penygillam Industrial Estate in Launceston has reopened its doors this morning after suffering from a large fire which broke out on site on Wednesday evening.

The fire, which the source of is unknown, was attended by five water pumps at 8:55pm. Later into the night, seven fire services were on the scene helping tackle the blaze.

By five o’clock in the morning, firefighters continued to dampen rubbish on site, a statement by the fire services said:“crews continuing to make slow progress damping down rubbish piles. Crews are being assisted by on-site staff to clear rubbish.”

Despite the scale of the fire, Suez have confirmed that the facility is now operational once more. A statement from the organisation says: “As of 9am this morning (Friday) the household waste recycling centre at Launceston is open to the public as normal.

“We’d like to thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.”
