A FUNDRAISER has been launched after a fire destroyed a number of homes near Launceston.

During the early hours of Sunday, May 11, fire crews from Launceston Community Fire Station, Delabole, Bodmin, Liskeard, Holsworthy, Crownhill and St Austell were called to a ‘major incident’ on the outskirts of the town.

The incident saw properties gutted following a large-scale blaze.

A spokesperson from Launceston Community Fire Station said: “A devastating outcome for the occupants of the properties who have lost all their belongings but most importantly all safe and accounted for.”

However, following the destruction, a GoFundMe has been organised to support the families affected.

Alysha Sleep, a resident of the homes, has explained that her family have been left without even shoes on their feet.

As part of the fundraiser, she said: “Last night at early hours my house set fire and spread within minutes, fire engines and the team worked so hard to eventually put the fire out, but we are all left with nothing not even shoes on our feet, although we are all ok we have been left traumatised and homeless, although the community are kindly making donations for clothes and other essential we kindly ask for donations for other expenses to help us get through! We can’t believe this has happened and are all in so much shock!

“But the main thing is myself and my children and and family are okay.”

So far the fundraiser has raised more than £4,500 for the family, with local residents rallying behind the cause to support those impacted by the blaze.

The town’s fire station has also launched an appeal, taking in donations for the family.

A spokesperson added: “The families affected by this horrific incident are in desperate need of the following items: Boys clothing age 5, Boys trainers adult size 5, Girls clothing age 8/9, Women’s clothing size 18 and Men’s clothing size small.

“Please message our Facebook page if you have any items you would like to donate and we will get back to you regarding collection/drop off.

“Let’s get together as a community and support these families who have lost everything.”
