LAUNCESTON Choral Society will be performing two contrasting versions of the Magnificat at its concert on Saturday, November 12 at 7.30pm at the Central Methodist Church in Launceston.
The well known Magnificat in D by J S Bach, is itself a re-working of an earlier version in Eb and contains some of Bach’s greatest choral music as well as solos which will be sung by regular soloists Dawn Felton, soprano, Margaret Parfitt, alto, Gordon Pike, tenor and Ian Hardy.
John Rutter’s Magnificat is full of catchy rhythms and, like most Rutter, is very accessible.
Tickets cost £6 and are available from choir members, Launceston Tourist Information Centre, at the door or by telephone on 01566 772701.
There will also a retiring collection for this year’s Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
