THE organisers behind Launceston Carnival have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s event, due to poor weather conditions.
They announced the decision this morning (Friday) on their Facebook page, with the carnival due to take place the following evening (Saturday, October 13).
The decision was made due to ‘adverse weather forecasts’ set to hit the South West today and tomorrow, stating that it was ‘in the best interest of everyone, that sadly we have decided to cancel this year’s carnival’.Dave Gordon, carnival chairman, said: “It is with a heavy heart we have had to make the decision to cancel Launceston Carnival this year. The very stormy forecast for tomorrow is giving us no other option but to cancel.“I want to thank everyone who had entered this year’s parade and worked so hard on the many floats and fancy dress costumes, and only hope that the interest shown in this year’s parade will spill over to next year.”The carnival committee are due to hold meeting this evening to discuss further steps.
