THE proprietor of a Launceston business is taking on Tesco claiming that they are "failing to uphold customer safety."

Jacqueline Donahue (above) owns and runs The Health and Beauty Clinic on Tavistock Road, Launceston, which is based next to the Tesco supermarket.

Main access to the clinic is provided by a driveway shared with delivery lorries which adjoins the A388.

She has lived in the property from which she runs her business for 11 years — a move she made because of the more relaxed out of town location, though this "gradually ceases to be the case."

Trouble started in March 2011, when Jacqueline was shocked at not having been consulted or informed prior to construction work starting on the store — despite being told this would be the case. Large vehicles provided obstruction to her premises; obstruction which neither she or her clients had accounted for.

She said: "This driveway is very, very rarely used by the store, but is used daily by myself and my clients.

"I run a clinic from my address and my clients use the driveway to access my parking area."

Although these works were delayed not long after, the manner in which the situation was dealt with left a bitter taste in the mouth, she explained.

No signs informing users of the drive of potential traffic coming from around a corner which limits visibility and narrows to a point at which two cars can barely pass was her biggest qualm. The placing of a sign reading 'concealed entrance' not long after the postponement was announced was described as "incongruous" by Jacqueline.
