SOUTHGATE joyously finished on a high to record their only official win of the season (their other victory expunged due to a club's withdrawal) and it was clinched in the dying seconds of the game.
Southgate took the lead early in the first half when a pass through the Newquay defence found Mikey Steel and his low shot found the net. Newquay were soon back on level terms when good wing play was rewarded with a goal and they went ahead through the same player when a break down the left was finished well.
Southgate played a lot better in the second half due to greater determination and had more chances to score than Newquay but with the game ebbing away they could not find a way through until a lofted shot from Jake Crabb looped over the 'keeper for the equaliser.
Southgate sensed panic in the Newquay defence and piled forward and when confusion reigned in the penalty area a claim for hand ball was denied but the ball fell kindly for Jake Crabb to smash home the winner and the cue for wild celebrations!
