THE COUNCIL tax precept for Launceston will be raised by the rate of inflation only for the coming financial year — if the recommendation of Launceston Town Council finance committee is approved.

The committee examined the draft budget proposals and decided that this was the ideal approach. It noted that the precept charge was "substantially less than comparable towns such as Bodmin and Bude."

The budget will be put before the full council for its approval on December 15.

To the Launceston town figure has to be added the requirements of Cornwall Council and the Devon and Cornwall Police.
