LAUNCESTON Castle has been left in the dark after floodlighting was withdrawn by English Heritage. The lighting was put in place several years' ago after an appeal for public funds backed by the Cornish & Devon Post Series, which carried a cash barometer each week showing how the total was rising. Cllr Rob Tremain told colleagues on Launceston Town Council, meeting at the Guildhall, on February 19: "It is a very sad day for Launceston that these lights have been removed." He said the money for the lights had been raised by public subscription and B Davey had been the contractor at the time.
