FOUR members of Lamerton Pony Club travelled to Stockland Lovell in Somerset for the first big competition of the Tetrathlon season — The Inter Area Regional Competition, which has competitors from all over the south of England and Wales.

They were Rebecca Potter, Adam Sandercock and Rob Fowlie (Seniors) and Hannah Gribble (Intermediate). After a very windy night on the camp site, it was off to Taunton for the first two phases. No brilliant shooting scores but Adam and Rebecca shot 880 and 840 respectively, to put them in a good position.

Swimming at this venue is never easy as they make six lanes out of a five lane pool but Adam won the senior boys by over 20 metres. Rebecca did well despite suffering from tonsillitis and an inability to breath, and Hannah and Rob both had good swims.

Back to Stockland Lovell and time to walk the cross country course for the next day. The course was quite big and demanding and the ground was rock hard. Wednesday dawned with rain giving worries of the course being slippery but all rode really well.

Adam, Becca and Hannah all jumped superb clear rounds. Rob paid the price for not having walked the course with care and was eliminated at the corner fence. Only three senior boys and six senior girls achieved clear rounds so well done.

No one particularly likes the run but Adam had a minute and a half in hand and had a good run to keep his first position. Rebecca also ran well to end up in ninth overall.

So a good start to the season — the next major competition is the area qualifier at Taunton in July where all Lamerton members competing will hope to qualify for the National Championships.
