CONTINUOUS heavy rain throughout Tuesday March 3 caused heavy attrition in the numbers of Launceston Seniors taking part in and indeed finishing the final Winter League and Eclectic competition. 78 members had signed up to play but on the day only 28 turned up, of these only nine three of the remaining 19 submitted cards.

Not surprisingly there were only nine members present for the prize giving so Captain Robin decided to postpone announcing the League and Eclectic results until the 10th when hopefully the weather will be more hospitable. This of course gives him a week to sort out the cards and overall results. Also a feature of the conditions the nine scores submitted ranged from 22 to 32 with Ex-Club Captain John Mullins receiving the one and only prize of the day for his 32 points.

On Thursday the 5th the Launceston Seniors team was due to play their first match of 2009 against Lostwithiel away.

Waking to a covering of snow and radio reports that the A30 was closed between Exeter and Bodmin caused concern as the start was planned for 10am. Early morning phone calls between Secretary and Captain led to the conclusion that the team should travel as the A30 problem seemed to be to the East. Indeed it was a good decision as to the West there was little or no snow and the match was played in near perfect conditions. Robin was particularly pleased with the decision as he recorded an away win on his first occasion as Captain and he even got a few laughs for his second ever joke. The result 5½ to 2 ½ to Launceston.

Results: Robin Johnson (Cpt) & Tony Bowden won 2&1; Richard Dudley & Paul Roach won 4&3; Terry Swords & Lawrence Bailey lost 5&3;

Gerald Cramp (V/Cpt) & Robert Loughran lost 5&4; Tim Johnson & Rodney Duke halved; Mike Hughes & Derek Davey won 1up; Neville Helme & Graham Nevitte won 3&2; Don Slee & Peter Holland won 4&2.
