A DOMINO’S Pizza takeaway could be opening in Launceston.

A planning application was submitted to Cornwall Council last month seeking the change of use of the tanning salon and fitness studios and part of a convenience store to a hot food takeaway at Newport Square.

Documents submitted to Cornwall Council, prepared by Pegasus Group on behalf of MSG Cornwall Ltd, which trades as Domino’s Pizza, note the site was previously home to a Wimpy takeaway. It is proposed the new takeaway will be open between 8am and 11pm. The documents submitted to the council state the proposed store could create up to 35 full-time and part-time jobs and it is intended that the employees will be sourced locally.

The planning application is due to be discussed at the meeting of Launceston Town Council’s planning and economic development committee tonight (Thursday, July 14) at 7pm in the Otho Peter suite at the town hall, but the decision on the planning application will be taken by Cornwall Council.

Domino’s Pizza recently opened a takeaway store in Bodmin. Planning application documents, related to the proposed takeaway in Launceston, submitted to Cornwall Council, state: “Similar to the site in Bodmin, the application site has a history of commercial use.

“Furthermore, the site has previously been in use for food and drink purposes (it is understood that it was previously a Wimpy). As such, the principle of a food and drink use at this location is considered to be acceptable in planning policy terms.”
