FIVE iconic Holsworthy residents met in early 2016 to discuss another charity ‘photoshoot’ to follow on from their last successful project of ‘A photo every day in a Year’.
This time the focus was on a calendar – imitating famous ‘iconic’ poses and images from the past, including Laurel and Hardy, Sir Winston Churchill, World War Two — Times Square Kiss, Baywatch, the England 1966 World Cup team, Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn, Abbey Road, New York Skyscraper lunch break and the best ever calendar girls.
Ian Parker, who came up with the idea, was supported by Rodney Parrish, Dawn Bewes, Lynn Fursdon, Kerry Carroll, Darren Larwood and James Parker.
It was decided that the profit made from the selling of the calendars would go to four local charities — Holsworthy Memorial Hall, St Peters Fair, Holsworthy Church and Blood Bikes.
This was not a quick process as members of many organisations needed to be involved, and involved they were — because without the supports of all the subjects and behind the scenes staff it would not have happened.
Twelve businesses and organisations came up trumps and sponsored a month each, helping to cover the cost of production.
Rodney, Dawn, Lynn and Kerry took excellent photos and the calendar was well received, with sales starting at the presentation evening last October.
During the next four to five months the calendars flew off the shelves, and with the help of Holsworthy Rotary Club, a £1,600 profit was donated at the annual strawberry tea — with each organisation getting £400.
Organiser, Ian Parker, said: “Thanks to everyone involved, including DS Printings for his skill and expertise in making the calendar. Here’s to the next project.”
