THE children from Red and Yellow base, Bude Infant School’s Foundation stage classes, were thinking of others at Christmas and looked at new ways of spreading happiness to a wider community.

As part of their efforts to spread joy the children held their Christmas sing-song at Red Gables Residential Care Home, alongside fundraising for Little Harbour, the Cornish hospice for the Children’s Hospice South West.

After much discussion, the children decided to raise money and buy presents, such as craft materials, for the children, and their relatives, who visit and attend the hospice.

Pupils from both classes embraced the idea of collecting money to help others and were determined to earn enough to buy equipment to benefit the hospice’s attendees.

The children earned the money by doing odd jobs at home and in school — such as helping with the dishes, emptying the dishwasher, taking care of a younger sibling or helping to tidy the classroom.

Through their efforts they raised an amazing £230.

The children were also in charge of choosing the presents they wanted to buy, helping to order them and proudly handing them over to Children’s Hospice representative volunteer Sheila Cholwill (pictured above).

Thanks were extended to all those involved, but most of all to the children for their contributions and determination to raise the money.

One child even took money from her own moneybox in order to help.
