THE Gateway Centre hosted the first ‘Launceston Art Exhibition’ on August 18 and 19.

The exhibition was held over two days in the Launceston based Gateway Centre function rooms with free entry.

It welcomed a diverse range of local artists, from pottery and fused glass to painting, digital print and drawing. Exhibitors included Karen Farrington, Mark Charman, Robert Crowther, Laura Callwood, Alex Lloyd, Charlotte Trevains, Katie Maunder, Katherine Xulu, Gillian Brown, Deborah Mountford, Janice Byford, Tim Knight, Cindy Hall and Dani Cassidy.

Some artists not only displayed their work but also took their easels during the day to show their work in progress.

Katie Maunder, of Tree Two One Design and organiser of the exhibition said: “I have been overwhelmed with the interest in exhibitors for this exhibition, we already have a waiting list for our next event. To see the variety of work on display today is testament to the range of amazing artists we have in our community.

“The event has been a great success with many local residents coming in to take a look and I look forward to seeing it grow moving forward.”

There was a steady footfall over the two days with visitors able to view the works and also purchase them direct.

Cornwall councillor for Launceston Central, Gemma Massey, attended the exhibition on the Friday and said: “It is brilliant to see so much local talent on display in such a brilliant central location. I hope the town gets behind such new events and supports our local artists.”
