THE 'In Remembrance' project at Holsworthy was outlined to members of Bude, Stratton and District Old Cornwall Society at their first meeting of the year in on the Parkhouse Centre, Bude, last week.

Malcolm Wright welcomed guest speakers Shawn Dymond and Margaret Benjafield , volunteers from the Holsworthy Museum.

'In Remembrance' was started originally to research the 36 men whose names appear on the Holsworthy War Memorial. The project now covers the 22 parishes that comprised the Holsworthy Union, which originated in 1837 and was abolished in 1930.

The purpose of the project was that only parishes within the Union between 1914 and 1918 were included. The criteria for all the names of people to be included on the Holsworthy Memorial were birth and death certificates, those who were in the area at the time of death and those employed. There were 184 casualties.

In May 2014 'In Remembrance' was awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund grant of £9,900, being the shortfall needed, enabling all the ideas to become a reality.
