IN these days when the NHS gets so much bad publicity I want it known that my recent experience within the NHS has been excellent.
I rang the 111 emergency number in the small hours of September 27 and within less than an hour of giving details of the problems I was having, the emergency doctor was with me and after a thorough examination, he told me that I needed to be admitted to hospital. He contacted Derriford Hospital who advised him that a bed was available. He than called for an ambulance, which arrived in approximately 15 minutes. I was admitted to hospital less than an hour later. I was seen by the duty registrar within a few minutes.
I was treated with excellent care from admission, to my discharge a few days later. I cannot praise enough the care I received from start to finish. I would also like to record the wonderful care I had at Derriford in July 2014, when I had heart by-pass surgery. In both experiences I cannot fault the wonderful treatment and care I received.
I know there are shortcomings within the NHS but my sister-in-law who lives in Canada, pays a great deal for health care and it is not always perfect! If I had had to pay for my heart surgery, it would have cost in the region of £23,000! So please think before complaining about the NHS!
