Mr Hunt increased his majority from 16,318 in 2010 to a formidable 28,556 votes – outperforming even Prime Minister David Cameron.

The constituency was far from a safe seat for the Conservatives when Mr Hunt took over from Virginia Bottomley in 2005, inheriting a majority of just 861 votes over the Lib Dems.
