A NUMBER of projects are to be undertaken to improve Enfield Park in Camelford.
Cllr Rob Rotchell, who sits on the Enfield Park working group, told councillors at the meeting of Camelford Town Council on February 19 that he had been looking into a number of improvements to be carried out in the park in the near future.
Main improvements include the bandstand, the waterfall path and weirs, bird and bat boxes, as well as tree replacements.
The meeting heard that the back panel of the bandstand will be taken out before Easter, bird and bat boxes are due to be installed in the park, and repairs have started on the waterfall path.
Cllr Rotchell also said it is hoped that the construction of further weirs will be undertaken, providing a permanent water level year-round.
With the Environment Agency currently carrying out electrical works on the river, it is hoped they will also undertake the work for the weirs. However, a different flow in the water could cost the council.
“If the flow is different, will it affect the river banks?” Cllr Rotchell told councillors. “Because that would be our responsibility. We don’t want them to do the work if it costs us loads of money, so they’ve got to inspect the river banks.”
The working group is looking to focus on ‘two for one’ tree replacements in the park, and explained that at least one tree was previously paid for by the Rotary Club of Camelford when trees were planted there in 1982.
Cllr Rotchell suggested that the council get in touch with the club to see if they would like to help with further funding for this particular project.
