WHEN eighteen-year-old, Zoe Williams, from Holsworthy, flew out to Africa to volunteer at an orphanage, she was pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome from the community. She is a member of Chilsworthy Chapel and works at Fairfield country rest home as a care assistant as part of her work experience to become a nurse. Below, Zoe gives her account of how she was emotionally moved and humbled by her visit.
From July 1 to July 24, I ventured out alone to the wonderful continent of Africa to volunteer at an orphanage in Kenya. I did it all through a British organisation called Agape who put me into the orphanage Msamaria Mwema which means the Good Samaritan. This children's home is based a few miles outside of Nairobi in a town called Wangige. The place was incredibly different to the likes of England; it was dusty, dirty, litter everywhere, little children ran around everywhere, random little shops popped up everywhere and the drivers were absolutely crazy. But despite this, I loved everything about it.
