There are about 18 volunteer drivers in the Holsworthy area who use their own cars to take people on short local journeys or to the hospitals at Barnstaple, Plymouth or Exeter. The service is coordinated by the North Tamar Community Transport Association office.

Last Tuesday evening the trustees of the Association invited the drivers to the council chamber, Holsworthy for an informal get-together, giving many of them the chance to meet each other for the first time. David Perkin, the chairman of the trustees, thanked the drivers for the vital service they provided. He said in an area where public transport is limited and especially since the demise of the hospital car service, the volunteer car service would play an increasingly important role in the future transport needs of the area.

Consequently the coordinator Bev Tree is always on the lookout for new drivers. It is ideal for anyone who likes driving, enjoys meeting new people and wants to help the community. Drivers are paid 40p per mile and only accept bookings when convenient. Bev can be contacted on 01409 259001.
