A NUMBER of Holsworthy residents have been shocked when receiving their Christmas cards this year, as some have found their envelopes have already been opened.

Several people took to social media last week to express their concerns over pre-opened letters and cards being delivered.

A Royal Mail spokesperson has responded to this issue, they said: “We are very sorry to hear of the problem local residents have experienced with their mail. We process and deliver tens of millions of items of mail each day without incident. However items of mail can occasionally arrive open, either because they are poorly packaged or damaged as they pass through our machine processes. Every item of mail is important to us and all our postmen and women are vigilant for open mail.

“We can investigate the matter further if customers contact Royal Mail Customer Services on 03457 740740 with evidence of the damaged mail.”
