FESTIVITY was in the air once again as Holsworthy celebrated its annual event ‘The Big Switch-On and Christmas Market’.

The Square was once again packed on Saturday, December 2, with festive frolickers gathering around the Great Tree, all keen to catch a glimpse of the ‘big plunger’.

There was a bucking reindeer, inflatable snow globe and a whole host of musical entertainment to keep everyone busy.

Santa made his way to the main stage on his sleigh and was greeted by a large crowd of children, eager to hand over their Christmas wish list to the man in red.

He was joined by the deputy mayor Cllr Debra De ste Croix, town councillor Jon Hutchings and two young helpers from the crowd as together they started the count down and pulled the switch to illuminate the town.

Following the event, mayor of Holsworthy Cllr Nigel Kenneally said: “Once again Holsworthy came together on Saturday for its annual Christmas lights switch on event.

“It was a wonderfully attended night.  There was lots for everyone to do, including fair rides, a bucking reindeer, snow globe, silent disco, music on the stage by local youth groups and the town band,  market stalls, food and much more.

“The lights were switched on by the deputy mayor and two children selected from the audience.

“Much thanks must be given to Jon Hutchings, the staff of Holsworthy town council and councillors who pulled of a truly magical evening. I’m already looking forward to next year.”
