THE Holsworthy Good Neighbours Club, which embraces the Day Centre and the Luncheon Club and has existed for the past 18 years, has now split in two.
At a meeting of both organisations in the Manor Suite last Tuesday evening, Jenny Luff said that after a period of preparation, from September 1 the Luncheon Club was a now separate organisation with its own committee. She explained that the reason for the separation was to give them a greater degree of independence.
Both organisations play a vital role in the care and well being of older people in the area. The Day Centre cares for more vulnerable clients and is part funded by Social Services; the Luncheon Club is more a social club and is self-financing.
They will continue to meet in the Manor Suite, the former on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, the latter on Mondays and Thursdays.
Wendy Millar, the former chairman of the joint committee expressed the hope that co-operation between the two organisations, especially the goodwill between the two cooks, would continue.
Both organisations have vacancies for new clients as well as a great need for volunteers.
