TORRIDGE District Council has said it was ‘disappointing’ to hear that the council offices in Holsworthy were broken into recently.

The incident occurred on Monday evening, January 23, and the ‘damage and the mess’ was found the following day at 7.50am, by the deputy town clerk Kerry Punter upon her arrival to work. PC Hellens attended the incident.

A police spokesperson confirmed a number of doors were damaged and metal cabinets were forced. The spokesperson added: “But at this time no major items believed to have been stolen. Damage in the region of £1,500.”

Torridge District Council’s lead member for internal resources, Cllr Philip Hackett, said: “We live in a low crime area, so it was disappointing to hear that the office of Holsworthy Town Council were broken into last month. As landlord of the property, Torridge District Council have replaced the locks and reinstated all of the damage sustained to the offices internally. I understand that the town council, as tenants, have plans in place to enhance the level of CCTV coverage afforded to the principal points of access and egress to the premises under the terms of their lease.”

Police are appealing for witnesses. If anyone saw anything suspicious in the area at the time of the incident they are asked to phone the non emergency 101 line or email [email protected] quoting log number CR/005613/17
