THIS YEAR saw the 370th anniversary of The Battle of Stratton and in a change to previous years bought living history to The Castle and the battle to Summerleaze Downs.

The re-enactment weekend started on Friday, May 10, with schools visiting the living history camp at The Castle.

Almost 200 children learnt about the clothing worn at the time of the English Civil War, the weapons soldiers used and how they lived. A barber surgeon kept the children entertained with the gruesome tools of his trade including leeches.

On the Saturday, the living history camp grew and the camp fire was lit. Members of the Sealed Knot invited visitors into the camp to see what life would have been like.
