ONE of the biggest dates in the Bradworthy social calendar is rapidly approaching as the annual carnival prepares to take the village by storm – with plenty of floats, of course.
Saturday, August 23 will see the historic Bradworthy Carnival make its annual appearance after months in the planning and fundraising by its committee, with the event having been a fixture in the village since its successful revival in 1977.
Last year’s event saw an impressive array of displays on offer, with an explosion of creativity in the displays ranging from the Teletubbies to a ploughing match.
It was described as a resounding success, with judges facing a tough decision on the prizes on offer amid fierce but friendly competition among those entering the event.
Although last year’s memorable event will be a tough act to follow, the organising committee of Bradworthy Carnival has made a clear statement of intent with the announced timetable of events providing something for everyone.

At 5.30pm, the evening of events and entertainment begins with a performance from the Magical Days Musical Theatre Summer School, and this will be followed at 6pm by Jess’ Bradworthy Dance Academy.
After the end of that performance, the preparations for the main event begin, with the royalty for this year’s Bradworthy Carnival crowned in front of attendees and participants prior to the grand procession, which will take place at 7pm.
After the procession has come to an end, it will once again be time for more entertainment as the day’s proceedings comes to a head with music from the ever-excellent Loose Cannons, beginning at 8.30pm.
At 11pm, the Bradworthy Carnival comes to an end for another year with its traditional technicolour flourish comprising of an end-of-event fireworks display.
There will also be food and drinks stalls, an outdoor bar, ice cream, candyfloss, doughnuts and funfair games. Parking will be available around the village.
