ST PANCRAS Church, Pancrasweek is a grade II listed building dating from the 12th century, with later rebuilding and restorations, and is in need of some roof repairs.

It was recently announced that funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund would be granted to St Pancras Church in order to carry out these repairs.

The church has much significant heritage, including a carved double roof in the wagon style, a Jacobean pulpit and a 12th century font.

In the early 1900s, the church was re-roofed, but in recent years the condition of the roof has deteriorated and is in urgent need of major repairs.

Without the repairs to the building water ingress will cause significant damage and the church, its heritage and its vital role in the community could be lost. The required works are extensive and are estimated to cost in excess of £250,000.

On Easter Sunday, Holy Communion was held at the church and was celebrated by the Rt Rev Dame Sarah Mullally, the Bishop of Crediton. The joyful occasion of the celebration of Easter and having the pleasure of welcoming Bishop Sarah to Pancrasweek provided an excellent opportunity to announce that the Heritage Lottery Fund will be supporting the roof repairs and associated works, which will commence shortly.

It is hoped that by repairing the church roof more people will be able to enjoy and appreciate the heritage of the building and that St Pancras will continue to be a place of worship and a Christian presence in the community for generations to come.

The significant contribution from the Heritage Lottery Fund has made the essential project possible, however, further funds will be required. If anyone would like to donate towards the conservation work they are asked to email [email protected]
