THE annual town meeting at Holsworthy's Market Hall last Thursday gave mayor Cllr John Allen the opportunity to report to the public on the past 12 months.

He detailed recent improvements in the town such as the new market stalls and lay-out, the children's playground in Stanhope Park, a new look town newsletter and Christmas lights.

He also referred to ongoing projects led by councillors. These included the refurbishment of the pavilion, the installation of a skate board park, a full-size football pitch on the old showfield site and a Holsworthy Rural Youth Council for 11 to 17-year-olds, led by town clerk Lisa Bowman, to develop leadership skills.

Hindered by lack of funds, the council had a frustrating year pursuing Highways for maintenance work on the roads, but had been working to improve traffic management in the town, signage on the industrial estate and the development of a neighbourhood plan, giving people the opportunity to comment on future development.
