A NEW British Heart Foundation fundraising group has been launched in the Launceston area to support the work of the charity.

The group attended its first event on Saturday, March 28 — the Launceston Community Day —where members were able to talk to people about the BHF, the work they do and how they can help.

Annie Mitchell, group leader, is aiming to make their presence known throughout the town and nearby areas and has already been planning fun events during the year, including a Singles Night at the White Hart Hotel, Launceston, on Friday, May 8, and Community Meals in the town.

Stacey Smalley, fundraising manager at the BHF, said: "Fundraising groups are so important to the BHF — they provide a local presence and help raise much needed funds for research and services.

"These local heroes are the power behind our life-saving research. We are so grateful to the wonderful volunteers that give their time to help us fight for every heartbeat."
