THE Rotary Club of Holsworthy held its annual ‘Know Your Own Blood Pressure’ session on Wednesday, May 29, at the livestock market.

Rotarians Liz Jones and Mary Osborne ‘enjoyed’ a morning of typical British summer weather — windy, cold and rainy — outside the Cowshed Café, offering blood pressure measurements for anyone passing.

Know Your Own Blood Pressure is a programme supported by the Stroke Association. Each year, Holsworthy Rotary holds a session around the town.

Liz said: “For every ten people diagnosed with high blood pressure, seven remain undiagnosed and untreated. High blood pressure is the biggest risk factor for stroke that we can control and can affect people of all ages and lifestyles, yet it often has no symptoms.

“We hope that by offering these quick, painless measurements, we can alert some people to their high blood pressure before it causes harm, and advise them to see their doctor if necessary.”

Thanks were expressed to Kivells for their support, and to all who took part in the event.
