Jay’s Aim have managed to station their sixth and latest defibrillator at Bude’s cricket club following more of their fundraising events.

On Friday, April 12 Steve Matthews from the South West ambulance service visited the club to complete the defibrillators’ set-up.

The new defibrillator is now up and running on Bude downs and is situation between both of the town’s beaches.

The charity was set up in 2018 to raise awareness of the risks and prevention of sudden cardiac arrest in young people, following the sudden death of 28-year-old James Osborne.

The organisation want people to know that this equipment is within the area, so that in an event of an emergency it can be used to help save lives.

Dan Osborne from Jay’s Aim said: “We decided that Bude Cricket Club would be a good venue as our charity is set up to raise awareness of the risks and prevention of sudden cardiac arrest in the young. We therefore tend to put our defibrillators in or around sports clubs and other places that young people use.

“We felt that the cricket club is also perfectly positioned between the two town beaches which lots of young people also use for swimming and surfing.

“There will be signs going up around the club in the coming weeks, including one for each of the lifeguard towers directing members of the public to the defibrillator when the lifeguards are off duty.”

The charity will be celebrating their first birthday at the end of May and have now provided eight public access defibrillators and trained over 1,500 people in CPR and how to use a defibrillator.

The charity is aiming to provide a total of 10 defibrillators by the end of their first year.
