THE Haste family from Shebbear made a 1,052 mile round trip to Scotland last week to show their British Blue cattle at the Royal Highland Show — and they didn't disappoint.

The female British Blue, Solway View Immaculate, which won female champion at the Devon County Show and the Royal Cornwall Show, won the first prize in the class and was awarded the Royal Highland Female Champion.

She was up against 61 other British Blues to take the title.

The bull, Cromwell Ironman, which was champion and breed champion at Devon County Show and breed champion at Royal Cornwall Show, was also successful. He won first prize in his class, was awarded champion senior bull and ended up as overall reserve breed champion.

It was the first time the Haste family have taken part in the show, but Ted Haste said he was delighted with the result.

"We've done exceptionally well to take on the Scottish and win. The Royal Highland Show is one of the largest shows in the country. We didn't know what to expect because you're meeting breeders that you haven't come up against before in the South West. Those two animals have really beaten everything."
