TWO hundred Girl Guides from all over the county were out in force at the Royal Cornwall Show providing the messenger service, which they have done for 58 years — but with more girls wishing to join the voluntary organisation, more unit leaders are needed.

Julie Fairman from the county team said: "We desperately need volunteers to run units — we are having to close units because we don't have leaders."

At the show the Guides also provided the flower crèche service in the flower tents, where people can leave their plants while they enjoy the show, and were also hosting on the main gate and helping show visitors to find their seats in the grandstand.

At the Girl Guiding Cornwall stand, visitors to the show had the opportunity to try out a mobile kayak trainer — to kick-start the organisation's Kayak Challenge around the Cornish coast, they asked visitors to cover 100m each.
