SINCE the relaunch of the Bude Chamber of Commerce membership has grown to the delight of the committee.

In September they announced plans to grow the Chamber to 100 members and after six week, membership is now 35. The next event is ‘Coffee and Cake’ at the Castle on November 8, from 10.30am. The event is being sponsored once again by Growth Hub on the Road who are keen to develop links with Bude businesses.

The Growth Hub is a central point for small and medium sized businesses to gain access to consultancy, appren­tices and various grants for moving premises, creating a new website and much more.

Richard Scutt, senior business con­nector with Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Growth Hub covering North and East Cornwall said: “Things are really starting to happen in Bude, I’ve already connected with five businesses and hope to be able to signpost many more.”

Additionally, Mike Ellis of Thirty8 Digital, will be presenting, ‘Staying sane in a freelance world,’ and John Gimson will update the meeting about Bude BEAM Coastal Community Team.

Bude Chamber want to link businesses in Bude and the surround­ing areas, and Mr Gimson said: “There are so many good businesses in Bude, when the local business community works together, more businesses benefit. Bude BEAM are working hard with Cornwall Council, Local Government and others to bring the former Tripos Building back in to use — potentially bringing huge economic benefits to the area.”

The chamber is running monthly meetings, alternating breakfast with a more informal mid-morning gathering.

Verity Lawson said: “By having more than one type of meeting we hope to be able to include as many businesses as possible, not everyone can spare an hour during the day but they may be able to fit in breakfast. We would like to know what other kind of events our business people want us to put on and are always looking for people to speak at our meetings”
