THREE Launceston College students have just returned from a five-day visit to Extremadura in Spain.

The students are involved in an Erasmus, European Union supported project; the overall aim of the project is to equip students with the knowledge and skills to help and encourage them to set up their own businesses.

The students met a number of people from different backgrounds and business sectors including computer experts, artists and fitness instructors, all of whom had recently started their own companies.

In addition the students visited ‘Tany Nature’ a larger fruit farming and exporting business in Extremadura; this company supplies Waitrose and Sainsburys with many of its soft fruits. The students were given a guided tour of the whole business by its owners and sampled the delicious, fresh produce.

While in Spain the students attended lectures and worked with other students from six other EU countries researching into methods of business finance for entrepreneurs. During the visit the students stayed with local host families.

The project has another year to run; in March 2017 eighteen students from Spain, France, Croatia, Portugal, Romania and Italy will be visiting Launceston College
