PLANS are well underway to reinstate a youth centre in Holsworthy.
Devon County Council closed Holsworthy Youth Centre at the beginning of this month as part of its budget cuts. The centre opened at Sanders Lane in April 1969.
It provided a range of social activites for around 260 young people [in 2013] aged 10 to 19, who travelled from Holsworthy and surrounding parishes.
As previously reported in the Post, a group is now fronting a campaign to reopen the centre.
A committee led by town councillor Lyndon Piper alongside mayor John Allen, county and district councillor Barry Parsons and youth representative Nigel Lewis-Carpenter, is planning to lease the building from the county council and run it via a voluntary sector group.
