AWARDS for the best allotments in Launceston were presented recently.

Deputy mayor Margaret Young presented the awards at a recent town council meeting, for the best allotments at Kensey, Dutson and Grammers Park, and those highly commended were also recognised.

Cllr Young, who chaired the meeting in the absence of the mayor, said: “It gives me great pleasure to be in the hot seat tonight to present the awards for the allotment competition.”

The results were: Kensey — Richard Powell; highly commended — Mrs Gloria Whaley. Dutson — Ms C Gilbert; highly commended — Mrs C Sochanik. Grammers Park — Ken Parnell; highly commended — Jim Watling.

The overall winner was Mr Parnell.

Congratulations were extended to all winners.
