On Bank Holiday Monday a brave team of Bude Surf Lifesaving Club members rescued a large number of 'ducks' from the sea pool! The event was part of a fun competition arranged by the Surf Club Ladies Section to raise awareness about the club. The event, named the North Shore Challenge, is intended to be an annual, if not biannual, event, and it is hoped that when word gets around more clubs will go along and enter teams. The event is open to all ages and abilities; it's about getting involved and having a laugh, whilst learning about the surf lifesaving sport. Competitors were split into three teams and competed against each other in a programme of fun beach events, including a ladder relay, flags, beach sprint relay and a Baywatch relay! There were also water events including wade and board relays, and the finale 'Great Duck Rescue', or as it should be known after the day's team efforts — 'the Great Duck Fight'! It was a fantastic day and even though it ended up being a Bude club only event this year, it was a really fun get together, followed by a lovely afternoon tea and prize giving in the club house. If anyone would like to find out more about the events run by the Bude Surf Club, how to join or just for more information please contact Emmie Seward (ladies captain) on 07841 351102 or Horace (club chairman) on 07971 529538, alternatively pop down to the club (Crooklets beach, Bude) and speak to a club member. Throughout the summer there will be members available and/or events going on most evening and weekends.
