THE recent news that Cornwall Farmers Ltd has announced to keep the Holsworthy branch open is positive news for the town.

Geoffrey Cox, MP for Torridge and West Devon, has welcomed the decision of Cornwall Farmers to keep open its Holsworthy Store. The MP, who had contacted the managing director to persuade the organisation to maintain its presence in the town said: "I am very glad indeed that Cornwall Farmers have reconsidered their proposal to close the Holsworthy branch. I am sure it is the right decision.

"This is one of the most important agricultural centres in the South West and is, I believe, set to become even more important with new commercial developments over the next few years. We need employment and enterprises in Holsworthy like Cornwall Farmers."

Mayor of Holsworthy Richard Brown was pleased with the news: "I am delighted Cornwall Farmers has decided to remain in the town. It indicates that they have faith in the town, as I do, as it remains an important agricultural centre of the farming industry.

"It is good in terms of employees and I am delighted for the staff who will all keep their jobs as a result. Thank you to all those who worked hard to keep Cornwall Farmers here in the town."

The news comes after Cornwall Farmers announced the decision in April that they were proposing to shut down the Holsworthy, Launceston and Liskeard branches in anticipation of the changing needs of its members. (As previously reported in the 'Post').

It was proposed that the branches would close in July.
