ENTRIES were sky-high for the fun dog show, despite most of the dog-lovers’ canine friends being plastered in mud.

With spells of rain, but signs of sunshine throughout the day, the team behind the dog show had a pleasant surprise when more and more dogs were entered into the competition.

Tony Madge, secretary, told the Post: “Well, it was a very muddy day, and weather-wise, we still managed to have a good entry. It was slightly down because of the weather, but that’s to be expected because it was very muddy. But everyone seemed to enjoy it!”

Dr Debbie Evans, from Plymouth, was judge, and proved to be popular with everyone. Tony continued: “Dr Debbie Evans judged the entries, she travelled from Plymouth for it. She commented on how well all the dogs had done, even in the wet and mud. She (Dr Evans) put the fun back into it, I’d say.”

Tony said one of the funniest moments of the event was when a boxer puppy, owned by an L Groven, had rolled in mud. Tony laughed, saying: “There was more mud than puppy!”

When asked what the highlight of the day was for Tony, he said: “Just seeing people turning up and getting involved, and the banter on the day was just excellent! The judge actually made the show.”

With 275 entries, the dog show is set to remain for many years to come. People from as far as Birmingham came along to take part in the show, and Tony’s dad even picked up a prize for best veteran, with his 18 and a half-year-old dog.

Tony added: “It was an absolute disaster in the morning with the rain, but then the show came up on top. We made money, had a laugh — roll on next year!”
