This year's Area 19 team dressage qualifier was hosted by East Cornwall Riding Club and took place at Duchy College on February 7. At stake was the chance to represent Devon and Cornwall at the BRC National Championships to be held at Hartpury Glos in April. There are 20 riding clubs in Area 19, amongst which is Mid Devon Riding Club. On a cold, damp morning the Mid Devon junior team which, due to illness, had been reduced from four riders to three met at 8am to wish each other luck. The format of the qualifier is such that from a team of four the worse score is dropped leaving the best three to count. With only three riders competing it was a tall order for Mid Devon but the junior team members rose to the occasion. Team members Charlotte Handley on Cloonisle Colleen, Izzie Potts on Straight Air and Olivia Thornton from Pyworthy on Yarty Welsh Jack managed to secure the win, with Charlotte and Izzie gaining a 3rd and 1st in HI2 and Olivia gaining a 1st place in Novice 25. This is the 2nd year running that Mid Devon juniors have represented Area 19 and hope to improve on their 10th place from last year.
