NEW instruments, new members and a new year for Launceston Town Band as the group reflects on the last 12 months.

Launceston Town Band has looked back on some of its success in 2024 at its annual general meeting (AGM) which saw new committee members join the team, and new dates set for the diary.

On June 5, members came together for the AGM, and whilst most of the committee continue their roles, Laura Parrin joined the committee as secretary and publicity, Jonathan Mariner has taken the role of bandroom manager, and Derek Kidby is managing the supporters club.

One of the highlights of the event saw two band members gifted with new instruments following a very generous personal donation and a grant from the Rotary Club. As such, the band were recently able to purchase a trombone for Dylan and a euphonium for Isaiah.

The donation helps provide support for some of Launceston’s young and talented musicians.

A spokesperson from the group said: “We are so grateful for the support of our local community, which is helping us provide our up-and-coming players with good instruments.

“If you want to see Launceston Town Band play, you can find us at Tesco on June 22, South Hill Fete on June 28, Launceston town square on July 12, Tesco on July 17, Launceston Show on July 31, Tesco on August 7, Lezant Horticultural Show on August 9, and Ashwater show on August 16. Please come to enjoy some music and support your local band.”

As well as this, the band has also got a fundraising bingo event on July 4, held at The Bandroom in Bounsalls Lane. To book a seat email [email protected]
