From Pam Parnell:

The League of Friends Launceston Hospital was first formed in 1971, to support patients and provide equipment in the then three hospitals, Launceston General, St Mary’s Hospital for the elderly and Old Tree Maternity Home.

With the closure of St Mary’s and Old Tree, and the opening of the new medical centre our constitution was updated to include the medical centre and community nurses.

One of the ways we can purchase equipment and support patients is with fund raising. Members of Launceston community and the surrounding area are very generous with supporting our work by raising money in many different ways and donating money in lieu of flowers when a love one has passed away. To all who do this we are very grateful.

As a league ourselves we have fundraising events, the main one being our summer fete. This year because of major works being done at the hospital we are for the first time since we were formed unable to have a fete at the hospital, so we are having a garden party with stalls, cream teas and music by the Launceston Town Band, and of course our usual raffle on Sunday, June 30 from 2pm.

It is being held by kind invitation of Mr and Mrs John Wakeham Tredivett, Launceston. As the access down to the gardens is narrow it would be appreciated if you could arrive by 3.15pm and not leave before 3.20pm. It will be sign posted from Launceston Fire Staton so easy for all to find.

There will be adverts within the Cornish and Devon Post and the usual social media sites.

We very much hope you call all support us for the new venue this year. At the moment our main fund raising is for a piece of equipment that will be of great support to the nurses in their work with all types of dementia patients.

This is a very new piece of equipment and will be a great asset to Launceston Hospital, the cost for this is £7,500 but means once again our hospital remains modern and up to date with the latest equipment.

Chairman of the League of Friends,

Launceston
