WAITROSE in Holsworthy has supported the town council with its Memorial Tree project by providing funding for plants.
On November 11 at 11.30am, Holsworthy Town Council held a Dedication Service for the WWII Memorial Tree carving in Stanhope Park. Many of the public attended and showed their support and listened to students from Holsworthy Primary School and Holsworthy Community College read out poems related to the difficulties of war for the families and soldiers. Mother Elizabeth Burke, priest-in-charge, blessed the Memorial Tree carving and read a prayer for all those in the community that served their country and sacrificed their lives.
The Mayor Cllr Helen Parker thanked Waitrose for donating £350 towards plants to go around the Memorial Tree. Future work will consist of planting and a path around the tree to make it more accessible.
Marilyn Chidley from Waitrose & Partners Holsworthy said: “We are delighted that we can help with this donation to provide the plants to enhance the WWII Memorial Tree. It’s such a poignant memorial at Stanhope Park and the creation of a footpath and additional planting will enhance it further for more residents to enjoy.”
