FOLLOWING on from last year’s extremely successful format when the Bude branch of the Royal Naval Association raised £835 for RNRMC, they decided to have another go.
Once again staged at The Falcon Hotel, which is the branch’s regular meeting venue, this year’s fun quiz of 100 questions over ten sections saw an excellent response with 21 tables racking their grey cells over a variety of items.
This year the branch shared the evening’s net receipts with The Falcon Hotel’s nominated charity for 2018, which is Cornwall Palliative Care.
With strong support for the raffle and table fees and an auction for a very limited bottle of commemorative celebration HMS Queen Elizabeth gin, the branch and hotel were delighted to reach that magic figure of £1,000 — with only winners and runners-up prizes to be deducted.
Separately all present were invited to donate additionally to Cornwall Palliative Care via envelope.
This event is now firmly in the Bude branch calendar and will happen again in April 2019.
Also on the social agenda for the branch is the first ‘Sunday Lunchie’, a ‘psychic evening’ courtesy of a branch member, a ‘race night’ with all facilities supported by bookie ‘Honest Jack’, the branch ‘meet, greet and recruit’ event at Morrisons on Saturday, August 4, and the ‘Trafalgar Night Dinner’ on Saturday, October 20.
For any ex Royal Navy or Royal Marines who want to ‘come back onboard’, full or associate memberships are open now. For more information contact [email protected]
