BOSCASTLE’S annual Raft Race was held on Sunday, July 3, raising funds for the Bude RNLI.

A total of six rafts were entered this year, which were all hand-made and varying in design, and were welcomed with the warm and sunny weather in Boscastle, meaning fun was had by all.

In the results, first place was given to The Mrs, second to Farmergeddon and third to Pirates.

Additionally, there was an inflatable race for the youngsters. First place went to Bo Simpson, second to Ryan Scawn and third to Isaac Buxton.

After the races, there was a presentation of a cheque of £622.78 to the Bude RNLI. Chris Bale accepted the cheque on behalf of the Bude branch.

This was followed by a hog roast and singing from the entertaining Bencoolen Wreckers, as well as music from the Bideford Pipe Band.

Lyn Washer said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Chris Mears for the donation of the hog, who apparently was known as Percy to his friends; to all the singers, including those from Boscastle Primary School who performed on the bridge at the harbour prior to the race starting, and the Bideford Town Band; Mike Howard for doing the hog roast; everyone who helped with the organising, especially Chris Bale; to the entrants in the races, and to all the lovely people who came and supported us on the day, as well as the National Trust for allowing us to use the harbour.”

The total raised at this year’s raft race was £479.53, and it is hoped that as many people who attended the event will go along next year to enjoy another fun filled day.
